Since becoming pre-medical students, most of them always fall sick. Why?
Dah kita yang akan rawat orang nanti, suppose kita experience penyakit tu dulu then baru kita tahu. Right?
Just simple short answer. Actually this hectic chaotic life forces us to do so, neglecting ourselves for the sake of our future patients (hopefully not because of money, ok!) Too friendly with all those Kumar and Clerk Clinical book and so forth, some of us sacrifice meal and time to sleep (but I think I'm not. hehe...) I also experience this kind of things. Everything seems to become necrosis and embolized somewhere in my brain, occluding my thought and eventually 'die' (dehydrate from motivation). Why? As far as I concern, I always have enough sleep and food, never starving!
If we try to sum up in every aspect, it is actually rooted from stress, and stress is rooted from... our mind! Don't be too histrionic that we are not loved by ALLAH or ALLAH is doing unfairly onto us. Quoted from Dr. Umeed's psychology lecture on 20/11/2009:
Stress is depend on the way of thinking. It is a problem itself. Some of our problems can be solved by doing nothing.
In one of the descriptions of personality, it is divided into three factors:
- NEUROTISM (unstable, tense, anxious ---------- stable, relax)
- EXTRAVERSION ( sociable, impulsive, extrovert ---------- unsocial, cautious, introvert)
- PSYCHOTISISM (ecocentric, aggressive, impersonal, cold ---------- aware of others, warm, non-aggressive)
Overall, we have to be moderate in all these three aspects (as previous post). That's a pure Islamic teaching. By ALLAH's will, we will have the best state of mind which can think rationally. Back to our main topic, sickness. Reflect the picture above. What can you find? Shrink the pupil of your iris and focus. What can you see?

Now that's the key! WHEN I'M ILL IT IS HE (ALLAH) WHO CURES ME. Thus, don't be afraid to fall sick. ALLAH is here and always be with us. I still remember when I got abdominal infection. I can't stand and just lying on the floor that night with severe abdominal cramp. On that moment, I feel I have no one except ALLAH. That's another key, we will remember ALLAH when we fall sick and dying. It means, ALLAH really miss our prayer and tears, so HE remind us through this kind of warning, sickness! HE doesn't want us to deviate further. Need to be shared here, narrated by Bukhari, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon Him) said:
O' servants of ALLAH, seek treatment for your ailments for surely HE who created the disease has also given a cure for it. Those who are knowledgeable will be able to discover this cure.
That's ALLAH promise. Every disease has the 'prescriptions' except death. Wallahu a'lam bissowab.
